“It was difficult to talk to him”: this Rebel Moon actor was so into his role that he scared the film crews

His character terrifies all the colonies he visits. As for his interpreter, he seems to have made a strong impression on some members of the Rebel Moon team, to be seen on Netflix.

In Rebel Moon, to be seen on Netflix for a few days, a peaceful colony receives a visit from Admiral Noble and his army, with the aim of harvesting them. But as the situation takes a dramatic turn, a certain Kora played by Sofia Boutella decides to take up arms and bring together a team of rebels to save her village.

Throughout the film, they will face the villain played by Ed Skrein, who will also be back in the second part, for our greatest pleasure. And when it comes to giving his all for a role, the actor who we notably saw in The Transporter, played the game.

In an interview given to our colleagues from Moviepilotone of the screenwriters of Rebel Moon revealed that Ed Skrein tried the Method, an acting technique through which the actor draws on his personal experience to inhabit his character, even if it means remaining in the role even outside of filming. :

“He was so in character. When he took off his suit and stood in line for lunch, it was difficult to go talk to him. […] I heard him say in an interview: ‘It took me a year to get my figure back.’ […] Apart from that, he is a very nice, relaxed and cheerful guy who happily hugs you. But you don’t want to be hugged by Ed when he’s in Noble mode.”

Like practically all the actors of Rebel Moon, Ed Skrein followed rigorous intensive training for almost 3 months, in order to refine his figure. Enough to make it more terrifying, in many ways. It must be said that Noble’s character is even scarier than the real antagonist of the franchise, the regent Balisarius, who we see at the end of the film.

Ed Skrein is not the first actor to have tested the Method, even if he did not go to its extreme. The most famous case is that of Heath Ledger, when he played the Joker. A role that haunted him until his death.
