Elon Musk has announced the Cybertruck’s production forecast for the first year. If you are among the first to have pre-ordered it, you may be very disappointed.
The numbers prove it: Tesla’s Cybertruck is probably the most anticipated car in the world. According to its leaders, the Texas company would have recorded more than 1.5 million pre-orders for its futuristic utility vehicle. The demand is so strong that the company had to resolve to put an end to pre-orders, for fear of seeing delivery times lengthen too much and pissing off customers.
When Tesla suspended orders for its pickup, in May 2022, the announced delivery time was already five years. Elon Musk discussed the progress of Cybertruck production during a meeting with company shareholders. And the comments he made are not likely to please fans of the American brand’s cars. Although he confirmed that the objective remains to start manufacturing Cybertrucks as early as June 2023, and that production will reach cruising speed in 2024, he had to admit that demand is so strong that orders do not cannot be honored for several years.
The first Cybertrucks should not be delivered before 2029, or even 2030
The multi-billionaire said: production will follow an S-curve. It will therefore be slow at first, then speed up. […] We should produce 250,000 a year, maybe more. It depends on the demand”. Assuming that production reaches a normal rate in January 2024, it will take six years to deliver all the vehicles already ordered, which takes us to 2030. A delay so long that many pre-orders risk being canceled. After all, Tesla only claimed $100otherwise refundable, to place a reservation.
Of course, the future of the American brand does not strictly depend on the success of the Cybertruck. The Tesla Model Y is the third best-selling car in the world, all engines combined. This is the real growth engine of the company.
