it would hide a little surprise under the hood

The Samsung Galaxy S22 FE is not yet announced that already, we hear about the next one, the Galaxy S23 FE. According to the highly reliable Roland Quandt of WinFuturethe phone from Samsung would integrate the second Snapdragon of the 7 series, namely the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

If you haven’t followed the game chips for smartphones and it all seems fuzzy to you, let’s quickly recap. Last year, Qualcomm refreshed its high-end chips, calling them Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, breaking away from the three-digit numbering of the older Snapdragon 888.

Then a few months later, the chip giant refreshed its mid-range chips with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Next November, the San Diego firm will hold its “Snapdragon Summit” in Hawaii where the Snapdragon 8 should be presented. Gen 2 and a successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. It could be called Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or 7+ Gen 2. Whatever happens, these new chips are sure to power a large chunk of phones in late 2022 and 2023 and according to Roland Whent, the S23 FE would benefit from the mid-range model.

What are the consequences for the FE range?

It is interesting to note that the FE models have so far had the function of offering a gateway to the high end of Samsung. With such a chip, one can imagine that the Suwon firm would begin to change the positioning of this range somewhat. Indeed, the last FE to date integrated a Snapdragon 888, the high-end chip of the previous year which remained very convincing.

The FE range could therefore become a kind of top of the mid-range, just above the Galaxy A. Of course, these are only projections from us based on this rumor. Also remember that the phone we are talking about is not expected for at least a year, many elements can evolve until then.

The chip would be codenamed SM7475 and would incorporate a new design. It would offer a performance gain of 5 to 10% over the first Snapdragon 7. We can thus hope for gains in autonomy on the S23 FE, which is always good news.
