Italy: 43-year-old gives birth to baby on the beach

In Italy a baby was born in the middle of the beach. The 43-year-old mother is said to have known nothing about the pregnancy.

A lot is different this summer in Italy. Tourists wear face masks, restaurants are empty and the visit to the beach must be well planned. The latter contained another surprise for an Austrian vacationer – regardless of Corona. On the beach in Cattolica, a seaside resort on the Adriatic coast in northern Italy, a 43-year-old woman from Austria gave birth to a baby.

Surprising birth on the beach

As "Rimini Today" originally reported, the Austrian and mother of seven children are said to have only used the toilet briefly on Saturday evening. Suddenly, surrounding tourists had heard screams from the cabin. Fortunately, among them was a nurse who could provide first aid. Because the 43-year-old was just about to give birth to a baby.

The child was in a hurry – and didn't want to wait a second. After the amniotic sac had burst, the birth took place on the beach of Cattolica. When the baby was born, the next shock followed: "We were afraid it was dead," reported a Rimini Today eyewitness. Because the child initially did not move for some time until it relieved the tourists with a loud cry. Since the mother also lost a lot of blood at birth, both were brought to a clinic in Rimini by ambulance. There, the baby should still be in the intensive care unit, but should be fine.
