Italy: An adviser to Meloni worried about the repercussions of the “Ocean Viking affair” on European aid

MILAN (Reuters) – A close adviser to Giorgia Meloni expressed concern in the Italian press on Friday about a possible repercussion of the Franco-Italian diplomatic crisis linked to the reception of migrants on the granting of stimulus plan funds to Rome. European.

Italy is among the first beneficiaries of the post-COVID-19 European recovery and resilience plan with some 190 billion euros.

“I hope they don’t refer to funds,” Giovanbattista Fazzolari told Corriere della Sera, adding that it would be “very serious.”

The French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, declared Thursday that the conflict over the reception of the humanitarian ship Ocean Viking “will have extremely strong consequences on the bilateral relationship but also on the relationship between Europe (…) and the Italian government”.

Italy asks “only respect”, adds the under-secretary in charge of the implementation of the Meloni government program.
