Silvio Berlusconi, a renowned businessman and politician, known for his escapades and his many back and forth at the head of the Italian government, died on Monday June 12 at the age of 86. The former head of government, treated for leukemia, was hospitalized earlier this month in Milan for planned checks.

“Il Cavaliere” seemed immortal, but he died on Monday at 86. Around the world, tributes are multiplying. Emmanuel Macron politely greets a major figure in contemporary Italy, Vladimir Putin mourns a true friend and the head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, paid tribute in a video to a fighter who was not afraid to defend his convictions.

“Ciao Cavaliere”

Silvio Berlusconi was a politician, business tycoon, football club boss. His death affects all of Italy and eclipses this Tuesday morning all other news in the newspapers. In one of La Stampa, we see the eternal smile of Silvio Berlusconi “Ciao Cavaliere” accompanies the photo in the caption. “Nobody like him has succeeded in marking and deforming republican history. He conquered Italians by dangling some virtues and a lot of life in them”, writes the daily.

“The First Populist”

La Repubblica, for her part, recounts the last day of the one she calls the first populist. Tears, flowers and memories, the people of Berlusconi beatify him in the temple of Arcore, his Milanese residence. “Silvio saved us”, is one of the testimonies that the newspaper collected in front of the residence of the former Prime Minister. Finally, Il Corriere della Serra gives us the story of an Italy without Silvio Berlusconi. The newspaper tells the story of the man who seduced the peninsula, who reinvented television. The programs of the channels, both public and private, have also all been dedicated to him since Monday morning.
