“It’s a masterpiece”: The Girl and the Peasants to see at the cinema, with a César-winning actress for dubbing

“The Girl and the Peasants” arrives in theaters on March 20. For the occasion, AlloCiné met the actress Nadia Tereszkiewicz, who lends her voice to the main character of the film.

On March 20, The Girl and the Peasants hits the screens, directed by The Passion directors Van Gogh, DK and Hugh Welchman. This is a unique cinematographic work, adapted from the Nobel Prize for Literature The Peasants.

The story takes us to the 19th century. In a Polish village in turmoil, young Jagna, promised to a rich landowner, revolts. She takes her destiny in hand, rejects traditions and upsets the established order. Then begin the seasons of anger…

On the occasion of the release of this very beautiful film with a particular animation style, inspired by painting, AlloCiné met the actress Nadia Tereszkiewicz. The latter lends her voice to Jagna, played in the feature film by Polish actress Kamila Urzedowska.

César for Most Promising Actress in 2023 for her performance in Les Amandiers, Nadia Tereszkiewicz is a rising star of French cinema. The 27-year-old artist talks with us about his first dubbing experience and his love for this magnificent character.

A great success

After The Van Gogh Passion, which was the most successful Polish film at the global box office, many distributors and sellers told DK and Hugh Welchman that the world had become more open to adult animation.

“But they also often asked us if we planned to do The Van Gogh Passion 2. In other words, if we planned to do the same thing with other painters. We wanted to do something else, to show everything we could do with cinema animation techniques”emphasize the filmmakers.

“Bringing to life a novel of more than 1000 pages was an interesting challenge, and it was also an opportunity to show that it would also work for a drama. The Girl and the Peasants works on a completely different scale than The Passion Van Gogh. There’s dancing and fighting. Each image took us twice as long to work with, due to the more realistic style and dynamic camera movements.”specifies Hugh Welchman.

The Girl and the Peasants was released in theaters on March 20.
