“It’s an absolute tragedy”: the mayor of the town where Emile, 2, disappeared, evokes his anguish: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Where did it go Emily? This two-year-old boy has disappeared while he was playing in the garden of his grandparents, located in the town of Vernet, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Saturday July 8, 2023. After the call for help launched by those who had custody of the young child, the whole village gathered to try to find him. In the aftermath of Emile’s disappearance, the search continues, as François Balique, mayor of Vernet, informed in the columns of the ParisianJuly 9, 2023. If the police are of course requisitioned, they are not alone. “There are a lot of volunteers. People come from all over to help. We always favor the trail of a runaway child who would have taken refuge in a still unknown place, which he would not have left, either because he is injured or for fear of reprisals”, he said at first. Even if he wants to keep hope, he did not hide being more and more worried as the hours pass.

For the mayor of Vernet, Emile could not be removed

“As time passes and the whole environment around the grandparents’ house having been combed through without success, this thesis is in the process of withering away. […] He may have entered a small place that cannot be found. We always have hope, but the flame is dwindling with the passage of time. We do not understand that we do not find it when we know the place well. It’s difficult terrain, hilly, with rivers, normally a child can’t go very far.”, explained the mayor of the town. Earlier in the day, he had already spoken on France Blue to ensure thathe cleared the track of pick up. “People saw him coming down the road, not worrying because the children were moving freely around the village. People have seen him pass on the schedule that corresponds to when he escaped the vigilance of the grandparents”, he said to clarify his argument. In an attempt to find the little boy alive, the public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains launched a call for witnesses. “Anyone who passed through the town of Vernet this Saturday is invited to contact 04.92.36.73.00. This is a line dedicated to this disappearance”he thus declared, as reported BFM DICI.
