Gymnastics Euros: Frenchwoman Coline Devillard gold medal on vault

Frenchwoman Coline Devillard won the gold medal on vault for the second time in a row at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Saturday in Rimini (Italy), where her young compatriot Ming Gherardi van Eijken won bronze.

Coline Devillard, 23, also a bronze medalist at the 2022 Worlds on vault, totaled 13.866 points to beat Bulgarian Valentina Georgieva (13.799), and Ming Gherardi van Eijken (13.699), less than three months before the Paris Olympic Games .

A major athlete of the French team

Devillard, who had the best result during qualifying on Thursday, won his third continental crown, in vault, after those of 2017 and 2023. Ming Gherardi van Eijken, who celebrated his 16th birthday a month ago, is participating in his first senior Euros.

Devillard is one of the centerpieces of the French team which qualified for the Olympic Games this summer (July 26 – August 11) by winning the team bronze medal at the World Championships in October in Antwerp ( Belgium).

There remain three individual medal chances on Saturday in Rimini with Marine Boyer on beam, Morgane Osyssek and Ming Gherardi van Eijken on floor. On Sunday, the French team will try to get on the podium in the team event.
