“It’s hot, it’s hot”: how this parrot saved its owners from a fire: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

This could have gone badly without Baby’s presence. This is a Gabonese Gray parrot belonging to a couple who lives in Lannilis, in northern Finistère. While many homes rely on their smoke detector to alert them, this is not the case for Virginie and Gilles. In the columns of France Blue, Thursday November 9, 2023, both explained that they had escaped the worst. The facts date back to Sunday November 5 when Baby came to wake up his owners. “It was 5 a.m.”, Virginie first remembered. Although his animal is usually very talkative, Gilles nevertheless specifies that Baby is very calm when the lights are turned off. “At night, he never speaks, we never hear him. He has his little habits”, he confided. But what happened? Baby who says ‘It’s hot, it’s hot, it’s hot’ and he coughs and he coughs”, continues Virginie who quickly realizes that something is wrong. Gilles gets up to check and he smells a strange smell.

Virginie and Gilles, a couple saved by their parrot

After being alerted by his parrot, Gilles took matters into his own hands. He quickly contacted the firefighters to tell them about the problem. “They were laughing. They told us that it was still a crazy story, to be warned by the parrot”, he recalled, adding: “The firefighters told us that we owed him a debt of gratitude because without this alert, with with the steamers, we could have passed there.” For her part, Virginie says she is very grateful for her animal’s attitude. “If Baby hadn’t gotten us out of bed, we would have ended up suffocating“, she declares before continuing: “He’s a hero.”. Baby is used to interacting with his owners all day long but he has managed to adapt to the situation. According to Virginie, the parrot was imaginative in pointing out the problem to them. “For example, he says, ‘My body is hot,’ and if we cough, he will cough too. But what is quite strange is that he was able to say just what was needed to make us understand that there was a problem in the house.she concluded.
