Created and written entirely by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Tulsa King), 1883 serves as a prequel to Yellowstone. It follows the ancestors of Kevin Costner’s character, their departure from Tennessee and their journey west towards the lands that will become those of the Yellowstone Ranch in Montana. The family patriarch, James Dutton, is played by Tim McGraw.
