Alex Batty has been found. The little British boy, who disappeared in Spain in September 2017, at the age of 11, was taken into care on Wednesday December 13, 2023 by the French authorities. It was his grandmother, now aged 67, who declared him missing at the time. Interviewed by the British newspaper The Sunon Thursday December 14, 2023, she announced that she had had her grandson on the phone and was looking forward to seeing him again. “I’m so happy. I spoke to him and he is fine. He is currently with the authorities in France.”explained Susan Caruana before adding: “It’s such a shock. I don’t know where his mother is. It’s great news. I’m just waiting for him to come home, I am glad”. A few hours after being saved by a driver near Toulouse, the young man, now 17 years old, took care to send a video to his grandmother via the social network Facebook. “Hello grandmother, it’s me Alex. I’m in France, in Toulouse. I really hope you receive this message. I love you, I want to go back home“he then declared.

After six years without news, the grandmother had the immense joy of learning that her little boy had been found in Revel, near Toulouse in France. While he was on the side of a road, a truck driver allegedly offered to drop him off. After several hours of discussion, Alex Batty finally revealed his identity to him. It was then that the driver suggested that the teenager drop him off at the nearest police station in order to tell his story. Greater Manchester Police, after liaising with the French authorities, finally published a press release to confirm the identity of the young man. “This is a complex and lengthy investigation, and we need to conduct further investigations and put appropriate safeguards in place.”, they explained. A happy outcome for the grandmother who launched a call for witnesses in 2018 in the daily newspaper The Oldham Times in order to find her grandson, kidnapped by her daughter and her ex-husband. “I just want to tell my grandson Alex, I love you so much and please, please get in touch”.
