Jeff Grubb, a noted industry insider, said on the Game Mess Mornings podcast that the Star Wars: KOTOR remake “is not currently in development at any studio.” During the call to Embracer group investors, the CEO did not wish to clarify the status of the game, simply saying: “IHe notices that everything I say becomes a headline, so this is my only comment.”
The game had already been delayed indefinitely into 2022. Developer Aspyr Media had created a demo to pitch the game to Lucasfilm and Sony. The remake was then handed over to Saber Interactive, who had assisted Aspyr Media in development. According to Grubb, development was then moved to another, unnamed Embracer studio before being shut down completely. In a recent legal filing, spotted by Axios, Aspyr said it “believed it could publish the content, but a third party objected and Aspyr was unable to do so.” The identity of this third party remains unclear.
