“House of the Dragon”, “The Penguin” and the HBO series: the Max platform will delight serivores. Its launch in France was finally announced as part of the Séries Mania Festival.
It’s the most anticipated streaming platform in France and it’s finally coming. Several months ago, our colleagues from French Film announced an arrival “probably early summer” for the renamed HBO Max service Max.
And we can say that the streaming service, which offers series like House of the Dragon or The Last of Us, was long overdue in France. Until now, series produced by HBO were available via the Warner Pass on the Prime Video platform.
When will the Max platform arrive in France?
Today, the Max platform will finally find a place on the French market. It was during a keynote at the Séries Mania Forum as part of the Séries Mania Festival that Jean-Briac Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, announced the imminent arrival of the streaming service.
After discussing the group’s streaming strategy, with Max, successfully launched in the United States and deployed internationally, Jean-Briac Perrette explained that like all streaming platforms, “Warner Bros. Discovery is still in its early stages” to answer to “a demand that continues to grow.”
The ambition of Warner Bros. Discovery is about attracting new markets for years to come. Thus, Jean-Briac Pierrette announced that the Max platform would arrive on May 21 in Europe in around fifteen countries, including the Nordic countries, Spain, Portugal and Central Europe.
But for France, we will still have to wait a little since the official date has not yet been revealed, except that the Max platform will arrive in France before the essential sporting events of the summer which subscribers will be able to follow live on Max via Eurosport, just like in Belgium, Poland and the Netherlands.
The platform will subsequently arrive in Southeast Asia by the end of 2024 and will conquer other markets in 2025 and beyond.
That’s not all since the different possible subscriptions for future European Max customers have been announced. Among the offers that will be offered to future subscribers, we find:
- “Basic with advertising” at a lower price (HD quality / 2 devices simultaneously)
- “Standard” (HD quality / 2 devices simultaneously / up to 30 downloads of content to watch offline)
- “Premium (HD or 4K quality with Dolby Atmos sound / 4 devices simultaneously / up to 100 downloads of content to watch offline).
In addition, subscribers will be able to add the Sport option (in addition to any subscription), which provides “coverage of the most important sporting events“, including Grand Slam tournaments, cycling grand tours, the 24 hours of Le Mans, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 live channels and many more.
The most anticipated series on Max in 2024
During the keynote, exclusive teasers of the next most anticipated series of 2024 were also revealed, including images of the mini-series The Penguin, centered on the character of the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell in the film The Batman by Matt Reeves, and his rise in the criminal underworld of Gotham City.
Warner Bros. Discovery has also confirmed the series It: Welcome to Derry, the new season of Industry, the comedy The Franchise and the French fiction A Devoted Friend for the year 2024.
Finally, two trailers for the highly anticipated Season 2 of House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel that continues the tragic story of the Targaryen dynasty, have been exclusively premiered ahead of its worldwide release.
The war for the throne between the Targaryens and the Hightowers is told in two trailers, one in the black colors of the Targaryen family and the other in the green colors of the Hightower family. This second burst of episodes is expected for June 16, 2024 on Max.
The platform should be available in France by then because Warner Bros. Discovery has indicated that European Max subscribers will be able to see this season 2 of House of the Dragon.
