Ivermectin rather than vaccination: anti-wormer products sold out in Upper Austria

Better to use ivermectin than vaccination

You do not want to be vaccinated, but trust in untested drugs against Covid-19 disease. In Austria, many people try the worming drug ivermectin on themselves.

Some people who oppose the vaccination swear by the anti-wormer drug ivermectin to fight a disease with Covid-19. In Upper Austria, the demand for this substance, which is mainly used in veterinary medicine, is now so great that there are delivery bottlenecks. “Ivermectin is always sold out, even though it requires a prescription,” the “OÖ Nachrichten” quoted the President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists, Thomas Veitschegger.

A comprehensive analysis of several studies recently showed no evidence of effectiveness in Covid diseases. Rather, the Robert Koch Institute warns of severe side effects. Ivermectin is mainly used in veterinary medicine to deworm horses, cattle, sheep or pigs. In Africa, among others, it is also used in the fight against human diseases, which are also caused by parasites. Since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, it has been investigated whether the active ingredient could also help against Covid-19.

In Austria, as in Germany, the drug is not available without a prescription. “First of all, you need a doctor who also prescribes this drug for the prevention and treatment of worms,” says Veitschegger. “A lot of people take the drug completely wrong. They take the much higher dose that is actually intended for horses.” There has already been poisoning.

“Curriculum for future crises”

The head of the right-wing FPÖ, Herbert Kickl, is one of the best-known proponents of the drug as a drug for Covid 19 treatment in Austria. He said he was infected with the corona virus. “Unfortunately, I have to inform you that I received the message from the health authorities today that a PCR test that I (…) submitted is positive,” the 53-year-old wrote on Facebook.

The FPÖ rejects the Austrian government’s corona measures as restrictions on freedom. At the beginning of November Kickl presented a “Plan B” against the virus. In his view, the early treatment of Covid-19 should be relied on instead of the vaccination, which has produced too many serious courses and fatalities. He also mentioned the anti-wormer drug ivermectin, which can be used against the disease. With this, Kickl contradicts the medical doctrine.

“If it weren’t for a potentially fatal and otherwise often harsh disease, it would all be hilarious,” tweeted the writer Saša Stanišić. It shows again and again that communication is not good. The trust in science, politics, administration was so shaken that “you would rather take worming agents than rely on existing valid information. For future crises, subject matter.”
