Jamie Chung dressed up for the SAG Awards. However, there was more than just a fashion statement behind their glamorous appearance.

Actress Jamie Chung (37, “Grownups”) made a memorable appearance at the virtual presentation of the Screen Actors Guild Awards. She shone on Sunday in a red and orange creation by the Óscar de la Renta fashion house, which reached her in a slim cut down to her calves. The deep heart neckline and the refined flounced sleeves provided fashionable wow moments, the look did not need any eye-catching accessories.

Instead, Chung, who was nominated for “Best Ensemble” with the “Lovecraft Country” cast, relied on the expressiveness of her outfit herself. The American with Korean roots explained on Instagram about her appearance: “In some Asian cultures the color red symbolizes joy, happiness and contentment. In Korean culture it symbolizes creation, passion and power. I am so proud of my history and my heritage.”

Big gesture in a small package

The 37-year-old’s message was underpinned by the hard clutch she chose for the award ceremony. Chung presented a small, orange-colored model with the lettering “Stop Asian Hate” on it. With this, the actress made an unmistakable reference to the second major racism debate alongside “Black Lives Matter” and drew attention to grievances in society on a glamor evening like that of the SAG Awards: the increased hatred of people with Asian roots.
