For the first time since his serious illness in April 2023: Jamie Foxx, 55, returns to public life. The Oscar winner made a surprise appearance on stage at a Critics Choice Association awards ceremony on Monday, December 4, 2023. At the Celebration of Black Cinema Awards, he received an award for the Amazon film “War of the Undertaker.”

Jamie Foxx: His life was on a knife edge

Six months ago he couldn’t even walk, Jamie Foxx revealed at the start of his acceptance speech posted on X (formerly Twitter). He wouldn’t wish what he went through even on his worst enemy: “It’s hard when it’s almost over.” He “saw the tunnel,” Foxx said. He didn’t see the light back then.

“I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art,” said the performer on stage. During his recovery period, he watched a lot of films and listened to a lot of music to make the time pass faster.

“I’m not a clone”: Jamie Foxx jokes about rumors

The actor then joked about rumors that he died and was cloned. “I’m not a clone,” the “They Cloned Tyrone” star insisted.

Jamie Foxx didn’t say what exactly led to his hospitalization a good eight months ago. On April 12, 2023, he was taken to a clinic for what was described at the time as “medical complications.”

In July he addressed his fans for the first time in a video. “I went through hell and back,” he said in tears. His sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne, 29, saved his life.
