Jamie Lee Curtis and her daughter talked about Ruby’s coming out as a trans woman in a joint interview.

US actress Jamie Lee Curtis (62) told AARP magazine last July that her former son defined himself as a woman and now bears the name Ruby. Now she has with her daughter (25) a joint interview given by the two talked about the tearful coming out and the time after.

At the age of 16, when she was asked about her gender, she first noticed that she was different, Ruby told People magazine. Another seven years passed before they came out. “I was still Tom when I told the person who is now my fiancé that I was probably trans. And they said, ‘I love you for who you are’.” The step of telling her family was initially difficult for her. “It was scary – just telling them something they didn’t know about me,” said Ruby of the moment before she came out. “It was intimidating – but I wasn’t worried. They had accepted me like this all my life.”

She then texted her mother and she called her immediately. “There were a few tears,” says Jamie Lee Curtis. The mother then faced a new task: “It means learning new terminology and words. I’m new to it. I’m not someone who pretends to know a lot about it. And I’ll screw it up, I’ll make mistakes and…” I would like to try to avoid big mistakes. ” She is still a grateful student and she “learns so much from Ruby,” says the actress. For her, one thing has always been central: “I’m here to support Ruby. It’s my job. Just like he is to support her older sister Annie on her travels.” Jamie Lee Curtis has been married to Christopher Guest (73) since 1984.
