Jamie Spears: He calls the # FreeBritney movement "a joke"

Jamie Spears was the first to comment on the online movement criticizing his daughter Britney's guardianship.

The future of the guardianship of US pop star Britney Spears (38, "Glory") is to be decided in August. Jamie Spears (68) took over the guardianship of his daughter for twelve years before giving up on health problems at the end of 2019 and transferring her to an employee of the singer. In an interview with "Page Six", Spears now describes the online movement #FreeBritney as working for the removal of guardianship and claiming that the musician is controlled against her will as "a joke".

"All these conspiracy theorists don't know anything. The world has no idea," he told the New York Post gossip portal. It was up to the California court to decide "what's best for my daughter. It's none of your business," added Spears. He loves his daughter and all of his children. The matter is family and private.

Jamie Spears: "How could I have stolen money?"

He dismisses the allegations that he has benefited from Britney Spears' fortune: "I have to report every cent spent to the court every year," he said. "How the hell could I have stolen something there?" He was particularly shocked by the aggressiveness of the # FreeBritney movement: "People are being persecuted and receiving death threats. It is terrible. We do not want such fans."

After an urgent request, the singer was incapacitated in February 2008 and her father Jamie was appointed as a guardian by a court. For over a decade, he administered the assets of his daughter, who is said to receive only a small pocket money per week. At the end of 2019, Jamie Spears finally gave up the guardianship, which was then temporarily taken over by Jodi Montgomery, a long-time employee of the singer. The next hearing on guardianship is scheduled for August 22, 2020.
