Janni Kusmagk ponders what nonsense it is that mothers are really losing their cool.

Janni Kusmagk, 33, stands up for all moms and dads out there. Peer Kusmagk’s wife, 48, distances herself from views that mothers and fathers should no longer be cool. What nonsense!

Janni Kusmagk: “I absolutely cannot share this view”

She writes on Instagram: “A few days ago I came across an article from a popular newspaper in which a mother explained why mothers can’t seem to keep up when it comes to coolness. She used to ride a Vespa – and now that’s it over.” Many pregnant women can probably tell you how often they are told to get a good night’s sleep, rest or go on vacation again because: Once the baby is here, it’s all over. But is it really true that parents are becoming uncool? What a crap!

Janni continues: “Even though you should of course admit everyone’s feelings – I absolutely cannot share this view and I find it exciting to observe what motherhood does – you withdraw, you allow yourself to be instrumentalized, you see all these stages like possibilities or doors “Yourself, just rushing past you, like a train with no brakes and a destination where other people are waiting for you?”

Important words about motherhood

“I see these doors as an opportunity for growth and transformation. There is overwhelm – of course! But without it we wouldn’t grow. There are long nights, of course! But without it we sometimes wouldn’t value sleep at all and wouldn’t learn to advocate for ourselves .”

She goes on to describe a situation with her three children that made it clear to her that she is by no means “uncool” but is actually pretty great as a mother. “Last night I danced exuberantly with the children on the way back on the beach. Before, in front of the children, I would probably have sat there at the table somewhere. I would have ordered a cocktail first to warm myself up and trust myself. I would have compared myself to other women. Maybe I would have gotten lost later in the day, in other people’s expectations.
Feeling free and uninhibited was often linked to a lot of adrenaline or alcohol. Nice outfits and high heels. Now I feel free because of my own clarity, which I have grown into through my children and the opportunity to meet myself in a completely new way and to go into self-determination.”

“I feel cooler than ever”

And isn’t it great to have created life and watch it grow and thrive?! “I gave life to three children and manage to stay alive, to detach myself from higher, faster, further, to model life for them and humanity. Vulnerability. A colorful palette of feelings. I find motherhood extremely cool and feel cooler than ever beforehand! And if you can’t find it, you should first manage to brush the teeth of three wild boys in the evening. High five to all the moms (and dads too, of course!).” [sic]
