Janus Henderson launches hard currency emerging debt fund

(Boursier.com) — Janus Henderson Investors announces the launch of the Janus Henderson Horizon Emerging Markets Debt Hard Currency fund. This fund aims to generate consistent risk-adjusted returns by considering the entire universe of hard currency denominated bonds issued by emerging markets. Its investment universe will cover sovereign, quasi-sovereign, supranational and corporate debt of emerging market issuers. The fund will be benchmarked by JP Morgan EMBI Global Diversified and will be available as a SICAV for European institutional and wholesale investors.

The fund will be jointly managed by Bent Lystbaek, Jacob Nielsen, Thomas Haugaard and Sorin Pir?u, a team of experienced managers who joined Janus Henderson in September 2022. The team is based in Copenhagen, where Janus Henderson recently opened its first Nordics office, strengthening the company’s footprint in Northern Europe.

Jim Cielinski, Global Head of Fixed Income at Janus Henderson Investors, explains: “Collaboration, company culture and team spirit are essential to our success. Since joining the firm in September, Bent, Jacob, Thomas and Sorin have proven to be a perfect fit for our corporate culture and fully share the collaborative spirit of our existing fixed income team.
As we near the end of a bull cycle in the US, the outlook for emerging markets looks bright and I am delighted that we can offer European investors access to this new product.”

Emerging market bonds are a growing segment of the market that many investors are turning to for higher income and risk-adjusted returns. This core expertise complements Janus Henderson’s global Fixed Income offering and is a critical element supporting single-strategy and multi-sector portfolios. The objective of the strategy is to generate performance by combining country allocation and stock selection, rather than relying on major sector or geographic drivers.

The team has implemented a unique investment style, thanks to the development of a methodology allowing it to systematically assess the sovereign risk of the investment universe. This analysis allows them to build a quantitative and qualitative basis for assessing sovereign risk, which serves as a starting point for identifying investment opportunities at the country level. It is followed by a bottom-up selection of stocks that have historically contributed consistently and strongly to financial performance. ESG considerations are also at the heart of the team’s fundamental analysis.

The Janus Henderson Horizon Emerging Markets Debt Hard Currency fund is classified Article 8 of the SFDR regulation.

Ignacio De La Maza, Head of Financial Intermediaries for EMEA and Latin America, adds: “I am delighted that we are expanding the range of Fixed Income solutions available to our clients. As a leading global asset manager, Janus Henderson is committed to delivering distinctive strategies suited to the complex market environment we face. The Emerging Markets Debt Hard Currency team has a proven track record and the skills to generate strong risk-adjusted returns for our clients.
