Japan: 0.1% drop in GDP in the 1st quarter

(CercleFinance.com) – Japan’s GDP fell by 0.1% in the first quarter of 2022, sequentially and in seasonally adjusted data, according to the second estimate of the Japanese government, which had announced a contraction of 0.2% at first reading.

This decline in GDP is mainly due to a stronger increase in imports (+3.3%) than in exports (+1.1%), while domestic demand increased by 0.3%, driven in particular by the general government consumption (+0.5%).
