Jean-Luc Mélenchon: “I ask the French to elect me Prime Minister”

Unsuccessful candidate in the first round, Jean-Luc Mélenchon called on voters to mobilize in the legislative elections. “I ask the French to elect me Prime Minister, he declared.

L’Insoumis considers that the legislative elections will have a role of “third round” of the presidential election, and invites the French to vote for the elected insoumis so that he can become Prime Minister. “Gather with the Popular Union”, he called this Tuesday evening in an interview with BFMTV.

The leader of La France insoumise assured that if he became prime minister, he would honor the political promises he had made to the French as a candidate, such as freezing fuel prices.

However, he has not confirmed that he himself would be a candidate for the legislative elections, which will take place on June 12 and 19, and therefore casts doubt on a possible new mandate as deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône. “I haven’t made my decision yet,” he said simply.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who won 21.95% of the vote on April 10, said he would run for this post, whether the President of the Republic elected on Sunday is Emmanuel Macron or Marine Le Pen. “I will be the Prime Minister, not by the favor of Mr. Macron or Mrs. Le Pen, but by the French people who elected me”. However, he claims to have no discussion and no ongoing negotiations with the two second-round finalists for a possible position.

If he once again affirmed, as on the evening of the first round, that it was not necessary “to give a single vote to Madame Le Pen”, he did not however call for a vote for Emmanuel Macron either: “We done with his conscience. Each. I will do with my conscience. Around me, opinions are extremely diverse, and I am the representative of the whole family. (…) My goal is to keep the 11 million votes so that they become the next majority.”
