Jeff Bezos fulfills a longstanding dream. The Amazon founder flies into space with his brother in July.

The American entrepreneur Jeff Bezos (57) plans to fly into space in a few weeks. The Amazon founder announced this on Instagram. Commenting on a video, Bezos explains: “I have dreamed of going into space since I was five. On July 20, I will go on this journey with my brother.” For Bezos it is “the greatest adventure” with his “best friend”.

In the clip, Bezos raves about the plan: “I want to take this flight because I’ve wanted to do it all my life.” You can also see Bezos asking his brother Marc if he would like to accompany him.

How much does the trip into space cost?

The company Blue Origin, also founded by Bezos, will bring space tourists into space for the first time on July 20 – with the New Shepard rocket system. One capsule offers space for a total of six passengers – two of them will be Bezos and his brother. One of the places goes to the winner of an auction that runs until June 12 and is currently at a maximum bid of 2.8 million US dollars – the equivalent of around 2.3 million euros. It is not yet known how much a space will cost for space tourists on further flights.

The proceeds from the auction will go to a foundation owned by the company called “Club for the Future”. The foundation aims to introduce future generations to professions from areas such as computer science, natural science, technology and mathematics and would also like to help facilitate a life in space.

According to a current list of the business magazine “Forbes” Bezos is currently the second richest man in the world with an estimated fortune equivalent to around 152.8 billion euros, behind the French entrepreneur Bernard Arnault (72) and his family. Elon Musk (49), Bill Gates (65) and Mark Zuckerberg (37) follow in the top five.
