The Corona crisis is afflicting many people, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is now benefiting. He is richer than ever.
While the corona crisis is an economic challenge for many households and smaller companies, two people in particular benefited greatly from increased online sales: Jeff Bezos (56) and his ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos (50). Despite the divorce last year, in which the entrepreneur had to sell 25 percent of his shares in Amazon, Bezos is richer than ever before, according to the "Bloomberg Billionaires Index".
The richest man in the world
According to the current listing, Bezos is by far the richest man in the world. He is now said to have assets of just under $ 172 billion – the equivalent of about 153 billion euros. According to "Bloomberg", he owes this to a record high in Amazon shares. Bezos' old record from September 2018 was $ 167.7 billion, which equates to around € 149 billion.
This means that Bezos is around 52 billion euros ahead of the second-placed Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates (64). MacKenzie Bezos climbs to 12th place among the richest people in the world. With a converted fortune of just under 51 billion euros, only one woman is richer than she. L'Oréal heiress Francoise Bettencourt-Meyers (66) is tenth in the overall list with around 57 billion euros.
