During a broadcast on Tagesschau24, spokesman Jens Riewa had a faux pas. He calls politician Armin Laschet with a false first name.

The flood disaster continues to hold the whole of Germany in suspense. Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (60, CDU) visited crisis areas in North Rhine-Westphalia in the past few days. “Tagesschau” spokesman Jens Riewa (58) called the politician several times in the context of a wrong first name. “May I interrupt for a moment? We are now waiting for the statement that has just begun from the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bernd Laschet,” said the moderator.

Jens Riewa gets confused by “Deep Bernd”

During his reporting on the Tagesschau24 broadcaster, Riewa informed about the extent of the low “Bernd”. The weather phenomenon is responsible for the large amounts of rain in some parts of Germany. The moderator apparently got confused and called the CDU politician “Bernd Laschet” without further ado. Twitter users were visibly amused and shared the short excerpt from the broadcast on the social network.

When Riewa then spoke with his “Tagesschau” colleague Bernd Rasem about the statement by the NRW Prime Minister, the mistake slipped out again: “After the Federal President, NRW Prime Minister Bernd Laschet presented himself to the press.”

A similar faux pas has already happened several times to moderators. AfD politician Björn Höcke (49) is repeatedly called “Bernd Höcke” after a joke on the “heute show”. Jens Riewa has moderated the “Tagesschau” in Erste since 1995 and has been chief spokesman for the news program since last year.
