Best-selling author and screenwriter Joan Didion has died at the age of 87.

The famous American writer and screenwriter Joan Didion is dead. The native Californian is According to a report in the New York Post died at the age of 87 of complications from her Parkinson’s disease. This was confirmed by her long-time publicist AA Knopf.

Her first novel “Run River” was published in the early 1960s, and her autobiography “The Year of Magical Thinking”, published in 2005, became a bestseller and won the National Book Award. Her last work, “Let Me Tell You What I Mean”, was not released until 2021.

Didion also made a name for herself as a screenwriter. First in 1971 with the script for the film “Panik im Needle Park” or a year later with “Spiel dein Spiel”. In 1976 she wrote the twist on “A Star Is Born”, the third film adaptation of the film of the same name from 1937. Barbra Streisand (79) and Kris Kristofferson (85) played the leading roles.

Her last film script found its way onto the big screen in 1996 in the form of the film “Up Close” with Robert Redford (85) and Michelle Pfeiffer (63).
