(Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden, who has vowed to “liberate” Iran as part of the midterms campaign, must end his “hypocritical behavior”, Iran’s foreign minister said on Friday.

“The White House has consistently promoted violence and terror in the recent riots in Iran, while trying to reach a nuclear deal,” wrote Hossein Amirabdollahian on Twitter.

“Mr. Biden, stop your hypocritical behavior,” he adds.

During a rally in California on Thursday, the Democratic president spoke of the “liberation” of Iran.

“Don’t worry, we will liberate Iran. They will liberate themselves very soon,” he said, without further elaboration.

The protest is gaining ground in Iran since the demonstrations following the death of a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, Mahsa Amini, on September 16 at the hands of the Tehran vice police.
