A children's series from Denmark is causing a stir because its protagonist has an uncontrollable giant penis. Is that harmless or highly questionable?

When we think of children's series, colorful pictures, happy characters, an imaginative magical world … only one thing surely does not come to mind: an exaggeratedly long male genitalia.

Sounds totally absurd at first, but it's reality in Denmark, because in the children's series "John Dillermand" the main character has a huge penis that cannot be tamed. It's as colorfully striped as his clothes and doesn't really look like a penis – but in the end it remains a genital, and in fact oversized.

Is that harmless or dangerous for children?

John Dillermand, which translates as John Pillermann, can use his penis to steal children’s ice cream, light the grill or hang from balloons and fly. His best piece always has its own mind and doesn't always do what it wants. Is that funny for children or should the little ones not look at it?

The Danish author Anne Lise Marstrand-Jørgensen sees the series critically, according to "The Guardian". She wonders, "Are we sure we want to send this mark to children while we're in the middle of the #MeToo movement?" Gender researcher Christian Groes is also not a fan of the series. In his opinion, John Dillermand raises the power of the male sex on a pedestal, which throws back equality.

The Danish psychologist Erla Heinesen Højsted, on the other hand, is less critical of the series. John Dillermand would act the way children think. The little ones just think genitals are funny. In addition, the main character always acts responsibly and stands by his mistakes.

"Might also have an uncontrollable vagina"

The broadcaster, the public service DR, justifies itself by the fact that it could have made a series about a woman with an uncontrollable vagina. Well, we're excited to see what else may come next …
