John Romero, one of the daddies of DOOM, announces a new FPS

John Romero, developer on Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D, continues his solo journey after Empire of Sin. His next game will be a return to basics since it is an FPS under Unreal Engine 5.

John Romero, who is one of the developers behind DOOM, but also Quake and Wolfenstein 3D, is still active. And he will even try his hand again at a genre that has built his reputation.

John Romero (DOOM) on a completely new FPS

With his company, one of the originators of DOOM announces to be at work on an FPS. A first-person shooter that will be a new IP based on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. An engine that the studios are tearing up. If by any chance you’re in the middle, the man needs some extra hands.

It’s a new era for Romero Games. We’re working with a top publisher to develop John Romero’s next shooter. A brand new FPS based on a new original license. Our team is growing and we are looking for talented people for all roles and at all levels of experience. Especially those with Unreal Engine 5 experience.

We will not know more. Will it be a SF FPS? Horrifying? A completely different genre? Who is this publishing partner? PlayStation? Xbox? A third-party publisher? Unanswered questions for a project whose development is visibly beginning. It is to be hoped that it has more inspiration than with Empire of Sin, a title which is struggling to hit the bull’s eye.
