Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial is set to be filmed. The title: “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial”.
The defamation trial and the turbulent relationship between Johnny Depp (59) and Amber Heard (36) are to be filmed under the title “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial”. This is reported by “People” magazine.
Accordingly, the main roles are already certain: Mark Hapka (40, “Hannah Montana”) will play the main role as Depp, while Megan Davis (33, “American Horror Story”) will take on the role of Heard. Melissa Marty (38) will play Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez (38) and Marry Carrig will star as Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft. The screenplay is by Guy Nicolucci (52, “The Tonight Show”, “Late Night”, “Comedy Central Roasts”) and directed by Sara Lohman.
“‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ isn’t called ‘Hot Take’ for nothing,” Adam Lewinson, chief content officer of US streaming platform Tubi, told the magazine in a statement. “With our partners at MarVista, this Tubi original was rushed to capture a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist and paint a unique picture of what millions saw in the headlines over the summer.”
“Hot Take” is published by Fox entertainment studio MarVista Entertainment and premieres September 30 on Tubi.

On June 1, the Fairfax County, Virginia jury found that Heard defamed Depp in her 2018 op-ed article on domestic violence and abuse, although she did not name him in the article. He was awarded more than $10 million in damages and she was awarded $2 million in a counterclaim. Both have appealed.
The trial ended a year and a half after Depp lost a defamation case in the UK against a newspaper that had called him a “woman-beater”. The London judge confirmed the paper’s claims as “essentially true”. In March 2021, Depp’s attempt to overturn that decision was rejected.
Following the Virginia verdict, Depp said in a statement that the jury “gave my life back to me” and that the “best is yet to come.” Heard called the ruling a “setback” for women speaking out.
