Johnny Depp wants to go to court again after his lawsuit against the "Sun" has been dismissed. A new hearing is due to take place soon.

Hollywood star Johnny Depp (57) apparently wants to continue fighting for his reputation. In early November 2020, a London court had dismissed the actor's lawsuit against the British tabloid "The Sun", which had called him a "woman's thug". Depp and his legal team want to appeal the verdict, and have now reportedly been able to achieve an initial success.

An appeals court judge ruled that Johnny Depp and his team would have an oral hearing that would take place between March 15 and March 31 and last two hours, according to Deadline. During this time, "further evidence" can be brought forward. The lawyers of Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard (34, "London Fields") apparently have the opportunity to comment on the matter beforehand. The trial against the "Sun" had degenerated into another war of the roses between Depp and Heard, who were married from 2015 to 2017. Both made serious allegations against each other.

Not a fair negotiation?

Depp had sued the newspaper after he was described in an article in April 2018 as a "woman thug". After a 16-day trial in London, the judge ruled that the wording was "essentially true" and found that News Group Newspapers, which owns the "Sun," had "sufficiently proven" it. According to media reports, Depp's lawyers then complained that the actor had not received a fair trial and demanded a new trial. They argued before the appeals court that the judge had accepted the evidence presented by Depp's ex-wife too uncritically, and that he had ignored relevant evidence or not even admitted it.
