Johnny Depp (59) honors his late friend Jeff Beck (1944-2023). The actor performed at a tribute concert for the musician at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Monday. The musician, named the fifth best guitarist of all time by “Rolling Stone”, died on January 10 of bacterial meningitis.

Johnny Depp sang and played guitar alongside Beck’s great companions and colleagues. Eric Clapton (78), who organized the concert with Beck’s widow Sandra, was on the stage. Among the guests were Rod Stewart (78), Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood (75), soul singer Joss Stone (36) and Billy Gibbons (73) from ZZ Top.

In memory of Jeff Beck, Johnny Depp wore a white denim jacket with his likeness on the back. The actor and the musician have been closely linked in recent years. In the summer of 2022, they released their joint album “18” and performed together.

“The two had a very close friendship, they were extremely close, and became even closer friends last summer while touring together,” a source said after Beck’s death to People magazine.

Depp visited his buddy shortly before his death on his deathbed. The guitarist’s health had deteriorated rapidly. Depp was said to be “devastated”.

“It’s an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the all-time greats and someone I can now call my brother,” Depp said of their collaboration.

The rock legend praised the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star in the highest tones. “I haven’t had a creative partner like him in a long time,” Beck said at the time, “he was a driving force on this record. I just hope people take him seriously as a musician because it’s hard for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock ‘n’ roll.”

This Tuesday (May 23rd) the second tribute concert for Jeff Beck will take place.
