According to his successor Mads Mikkelsen, superstar Johnny Depp could return for “Fantastic Beasts 4”.

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (56) considers Johnny Depp (59) to be able to return to the “Fantastic Beasts” series. Mikkelsen took over the character Gellert Grindelwald from Depp in November 2020 after he lost a lawsuit in England against the publisher of the British “The Sun”. After Depp’s most extensive victory in the defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard (36) in the USA, however, the situation is now apparently different.

“Now the course has changed – he has won the trial […] – so we’ll see if he comes back. He could,” Mads Mikkelsen explained during a performance at the Sarajevo Film Festival According to the US industry magazine “Deadline“. In the same breath, the star of the serial killer series “Hannibal” revealed himself to be a big fan of Depp. “I think he’s a fantastic actor,” says Mikkelsen.

“Fantastic Beasts 4”: Will Johnny Depp return again?

Johnny Depp’s exit from the “Fantastic Beasts” series was spectacular. Only a few days after the start of filming on the third part “Dumbledore’s Secrets”, the star resigned from his role at the urging of the producing film studio Warner Bros. Mads Mikkelsen stepped in at short notice. Thanks to a special contractual clause, Depp received his full fee.

The “Fantastic Beasts” series tells a story from the magical world of “Harry Potter”. Author JK Rowling (57) originally planned five films. But the third entry, “Dumbledore’s Secrets,” has the worst box office of any Harry Potter film. A sequel has therefore not yet been officially announced – and seems questionable.

Meanwhile, following his legal victory over his ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has been busy with some new projects. The 59-year-old becomes King Louis XV of France in the historical film “Jeanne Du Barry”. (1710-1774) – and for the first time in 25 years takes his place in the director’s chair again in the biopic “Modigliani” about the Italian draftsman, painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920).
