Joaquin Phoenix demonstrated his musical talent in 2019’s “Joker” when he danced uninhibitedly down a flight of stairs. The planned sequel will now add another disc and, according to current information, should become a real musical.
Netzwelt previously reported that the film, titled Joker: Folie à deux, would likely introduce a new Harley Quinn. This has now been confirmed and Lady Gaga is set to take on the role of the adoring Joker devotee. Since “Joker” director Todd Phillips already worked on “A Star is Born” as a producer, there is at least a connection between him and Gaga.
While Phillips was inspired by Martin Scorsese’s “The King of Comedy” for “Joker”, he could now use the Scorsese film “New York, New York” as a loose template. As in ‘The King of Comedy,’ Robert De Niro starred in ‘New York, New York,’ alongside Liza Minnelli in the 1977 film noir musical.
Since the script for “Joker: Folie à deux” has only just been completed and not even Joaquin Phoenix has officially confirmed his return as the Joker, it will be a while before the film is released in cinemas or even first information be revealed to the plot.
