Valuable contribution: Joko and Klaas used their 15 minutes of airtime for a moving live concert from a Ukrainian bunker.
Serious tones about the war situation in Ukraine instead of playing advertising gnomes for a week: At the start of the season of “Joko & Klaas versus ProSieben” on Tuesday evening, Joko Winterscheidt (43) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (38) were able to win another 15 minutes of broadcasting time for themselves ProSieben has no influence whatsoever. The moderator duo used it on Wednesday evening (on ProSieben and Joyn) to give the band Selo i Ludy a platform, which is currently fighting for survival in a Ukrainian bunker.
The musicians were connected live from the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, which has been the target of a major Russian offensive for several days and is under constant fire. With some pictures and short clips, Selo i Ludy gave an insight into their current shelter, which is “a shelter for many people”. During the day, shots and sirens can be heard again and again, which is “now normal” for the musicians. At night they perform their cover songs in the basement and share their performances on YouTube. “It helps you just keep going,” the band frontman explained.
Joko and Klaas have therefore decided to let Selo i Ludy play in their broadcast time. The musicians started with Bon Jovi’s mega hit “It’s My Life” and then sang Rammstein’s “Du Hast” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”. At the end of the show, emotional words from the band followed: “We’re doing our best to survive. We’re doing our best to protect the borders of the civilized world. And our country. I promise you Germans that we’ll come to you one day and play our music live there. Please rely on it.”

Joko and Klaas quickly received a lot of positive feedback on Twitter. “Once again it is moving what Joko and Klaas are doing with the airtime they have gained on ProSieben. No nonsense, no nonsense, but a live concert from a bunker in Kharkiv, and moving words from the band members about it,” wrote about a user. “It used to be big cinema,” commented another person.
ProSieben thanked them via Twitter Meanwhile, with the two moderators for the design of the 15 minutes of broadcasting time, but also with the band: “Goosebumps.
