The third division football match between Borussia Dortmund II and Preußen Münster has been canceled due to the discovery of what the police said was a suspicious object in the stadium. “It is an empty plastic tube sealed with adhesive tape. There was never any danger to anyone present,” the Dortmund police said on X in the evening.
“There was never any danger to bystanders. The decision was coordinated in close coordination between the clubs, the referees, the DFB and the responsible police authority,” wrote the BVB.
Explosive ordnance disposal service arrives
The Prussians wrote on X: “A suspicious object was found in the guest area of the Red Earth.” The Dortmund “Rote Erde” stadium is located right next to the BVB Bundesliga stadium. The game was actually scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Initially the kick-off was postponed.
“The stadium will remain closed to fans and teams until it has been checked by the police. We will keep you updated,” the clubs initially said. A little later, Münster wrote on X that the game in Dortmund had to be “canceled at short notice”. “An alternative date has not yet been set,” said Dortmund.
The “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” reported that an “explosive ordnance disposal service” was needed to look at the object. A little later, “the first areas were released, such as the media area and the entrance for the players,” but the game was canceled shortly afterwards.
