After a first visit to the emergency room in Mulhouse in January, the man, not feeling better, would have called three times on the 15th and an operator would have advised him to see his doctor.

A judicial investigation against X for manslaughter was opened after the death of a man which occurred less than 48 hours after his release from the emergency room, the Mulhouse prosecution told AFP on Monday February 20. His family announced on Thursday that they had filed a complaint.

Daniel Perrette, 38, died on the night of January 22 to 23. According to the first results of the autopsy, he died following a tear in the duodenum (part of the small intestine).

“He asked to be hospitalized”

On January 21, the 30-year-old presented himself at night to the emergency room of the Hospital Group of the Mulhouse and South Alsace region (GHRMSA) complaining of severe abdominal pain. “He was given some Tramadol (an analgesic) and he was placed on a morphine-based infusion“, according to one of his sisters, Priscilla Bein, who spoke to him by telephone.

We let him out around 1:00 p.m., when he asked to be hospitalized, (with) a letter to give to his attending physician, in which it is written that he presented with hyperalgesia in the abdomen and mentioned the likely course of acute pancreatitis“, she said. According to her, her brother, not feeling better, called the emergency room three times on Saturday and an operator advised him to see his doctor.

When one of his sisters came to pick him up on Monday morning to take him to the doctor, no one answered. The firefighters intervened and discovered him dead, at the foot of his bed. “I’m not a doctor, but I don’t understand why we didn’t do a CT scan, an ultrasound, why we let him go on his own when he wasn’t well and he said soasks his sister.

The GHRMSA had indicated in a press release “provide full support to the family of the deceased and is at their disposal for any medical clarification“.
