Julian Nagelsmann has been in Leipzig for three years and led the team in the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2020, becoming the youngest coach to reach this level of the competition. Leipzig is currently in second place, behind Bayern Munich, in the standings of the Bundesliga, the German championship.

The Leipzig club did not say how much compensation they received from Bayern Munich, but their chairman Oliver Mintzlaff said the club had “Successfully achieved financial goals”. German media have cited a sum of up to 25 million euros, including bonuses – which would make him the most expensive coach in football history, say the Sky television channel and the daily Bild. He would surpass the record held so far by Portugal’s André Villas-Boas, who left Porto for Chelsea for € 15m in 2011.

Hansi Flick’s early departure

Bayern have said they have agreed to end Hansi Flick’s contract after he asked to leave earlier. Hired until 2023, he will finally leave his post at the end of the current season.
