Julianne Moore captivates at the Venice Film Festival, a stunning president in a strapless dress

It was party time this Tuesday, August 30 in eastern Italy, on the occasion of the evening Party Variety, which inaugurated the 79th edition of the Mostra (Venice International Film Festival). One star particularly caught the eye during this event: the president of the jury Julianne Moore. The latter, recently at the heart of an anecdote told by actor Pierre Niney, made the flashes of photographers crackle in a sublime yellow and black strapless dress from the Alaïa house, made by stylist Kate Young. The latter proudly shared her creation with her 818,000 subscribers on Instagram, in story.

Mariano Cohn, Tessa Thompson, Arturo Artom, Monika Bacardi, Antonella Salvucci… Julianne Moore was well surrounded for this exceptional evening. But this is nothing compared to what is being prepared for the rest of the event in the coming days, such as the expected arrival of Catherine Deneuve as guest of honor. She will receive, at 78, an honorary Golden Lion for her entire career. The French actress had already received the Volpi cup for best actress for Place Vendôme by Nicole Garcia in 1998.

A flamboyant program

In total, no less than 23 feature films (including eight by female directors) will be in competition for the Golden Lion, which is to be awarded on September 10. And so it’s Julianne Moore, twenty years after winning the interpretation prize there for far from paradise, who will be responsible for chairing the jury. To support her, she will have by her side Audrey Diwan, the French director who won the Golden Lion last year, the Iranian Leila Hatami (seen in A separation of Asghar Farhadi) or the Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

The competition will begin with the official screening of White Noise, adapted from one of writer Don DeLillo’s seminal novels. A film directed by New Yorker Noah Baumbach, who finds his favorite performers, his companion Greta Gerwig and Adam Driver. A feature film produced by Netflix, which this year aligns no less than four films and a series on the lagoon.
