From next January 27 to 30, a ballot will take place, that of the popular Primary. Several personalities have positioned themselves and launched a call for a vote through a platform unveiled in The Inrocks this Thursday, January 20.
The presidential election are fast approaching. But before knowing which candidate will be elected as President of the Republic next April, there is still a little time to campaign, or organize a final primary, like the one of the popular Primary from January 27th to 30th. Three months before the first round of the presidential election, 300,000 people will vote to designate the left-wing candidate they will be supposed to unanimously support.
In order to encourage registrations, as the vote approaches, more than a hundred artists called for mobilization, believing that the popular primary was the “best possible way to win what we have in common, the fight against climate change and inequality“. They expressed themselves in a tribune relayed by the Inrocks. Among the signatories, actress Juliette Binoche, or the director Jean-Marc Barr who asked the left-wing parties to join the Popular Primary and to respect the outcome of the ballot in order to bring out a single candidate on the left for the presidential election.
Artists call for votes for the Popular Primary
Among the signatories of this famous platform, we can also find the director of the National Theater of Strasbourg, Stanislas Nordey and the actors Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Charles Berling, or even Lucie Lucas and Anna Mouglalis, hypnotizing President of the Republic in the series Black Baron. “The competition that is looming between the candidates and candidates of the left and ecology is not up to the challenges of the next presidential election (…) To waste five more years would be insane,” they recalled.
As a reminder, several candidates refused to submit to the results of this primary, such as Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot or Anne Hidalgo. Only Christiane Taubira who accepted. According to the signatories, it is also essential to set culture aside less since it is undoubtedly the “greatly forgotten in the debates and programs of the candidates (…) Culture is not a consumer good like any other, subject to a simple logic of profitability. It is the responsibility of the State and local authorities to defend our cultural exception“. It remains to be seen whether this call will be heard and, above all, whether this mountain of the popular primary will not give birth to a mouse, and still as many candidates.
