So prepare your best adventurer costumes and embark on this sequel of Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle. But don’t panic if you haven’t seen it: you don’t necessarily need to remember this first opus to appreciate the second.
The film Jumanji: Next Level on Netflix, an ideal expedition to travel from your sofa
Have you always dreamed of diving into the dangerous world of Jumanji, just to shiver for a few hours? To save yourself the chase with angry animals chasing you, you can instead choose the safety of your couch and embark on a Jumanji: Next Level. This sequence of Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungleitself being a sort of continuation of Jumanji from the 1990s (still following?), is finally available on Netflix. But no more board game games, and hello technology since the adventure takes place in the heart of a video game world.
In Jumanji: Next Level, we therefore find Spencer, Bethany, Fridge and Martha, teenagers who embark on a new game, in spite of themselves. They are accompanied by Milo and Eddie, two elders played by Danny DeVito (Batman: The Challenge, Friends) and Danny Glover (The lethal Weapon). But in Jumanjithey rediscover their former youth thanks to avatars stronger than ever.
In this second opus of the franchise, we leave the mythical jungle of the game to explore arid deserts and snowy mountains, always guided by Dwayne Johnson, alias The Rock, Jack Black and Karen Gillan (Doctor Who). We appreciate the visual aspect of this virtual world, ideal for a completely crazy adventure comedy, with assumed pop culture references. Of course, the distant drums and the perilous quests are always part of the game, to surround controlled action sequences.
So, obviously, it’s clearly not the subtlety that stifles Jumanji: Next Level. Stereotypical characters, inconsistent situations and bland jokes are a regular occurrence. But we finally let ourselves be carried away by this improbable mixture, which takes us away, for a few hours, from ever more anxiety-provoking news. But beware: you only have 3 lives to complete the challenge…
