Jumping on the normal hill – Swiss miss exploit – Kobayashi now also Olympic champion – Sport

  • Gregor Deschwanden finished 17th at the Olympic Games in jumping on the normal hill as the best Swiss.
  • Simon Ammann jumps to 25th place, Killian Peier and Dominik Peter miss the final round.
  • Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN) secures the gold medal ahead of Manuel Fettner (AUT) and Dawid Kubacki (POL).
  • Simon Ammann was overjoyed and relieved after his first jump. However, his good feeling was not fully reflected in the rating. The jury didn’t want to see any Telemark on landing, so the Toggenburger “only” came in 25th at half-time.

In his 7th participation in the Olympic Games, Ammann failed to improve in the second round. The 40-year-old was correspondingly dissatisfied after the decision: “I thought my first jump was worth more. The competition went differently than I had visualized.”

Finishing 25th, Ammann was the second best Swiss. Gregor Deschwanden got the best classification for Swiss-Ski. The man from Lucerne showed two almost identical jumps of 99.5 m and 99.0 m, which was enough for 17th place.

Big disappointment for Peier

Killian Peier experienced a day to forget. The most consistent Swiss ski jumper in recent years failed the first jump completely. The 90.5 m was not enough for the Vaud native to qualify for the final. Halfway through the competition at the Zhangjiakou National Center, Dominik Peter was also over. After the first round, the 20-year-old was ranked 35th, two positions ahead of Peier.

Kobayashi outshines everyone

Ryoyu Kobayashi will not soon forget February 6, 2022. The Japanese, who has already won the Four Hills Tournament twice, won his very first individual medal at a World Championships or Olympic Games in Beijing. And then the golden one. Already at half time Kobayashi was in the lead thanks to a set of 104.5 m. In the final, the 25-year-old 99.5 meters was enough to be crowned Olympic champion.

Behind Kobayashi, the Austrian veteran Manuel Fettner was able to celebrate silver, the Pole Dawid Kubacki secured the bronze medal.
