For the jungle campers, Season 15 is not going to Australia, but to South Africa. That’s what the country is waiting for.
The jungle camp starts again on January 21, 2022. The 15th season of the show will not take place in Australia for the first time, but in South Africa. The RTL show with the actual name “I’m a star – get me out of here!” is filmed near the Kruger National Park, South Africa’s largest game reserve in Mpumalanga. Usually the Australian version of the show takes place there. High time to take a look at the beautiful spot on earth and the current Corona situation on site.
South Africa is no longer a virus variant area
The good news first: After the omicron variant of the coronavirus was first discovered in South Africa at the end of November 2021, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has now removed the country from the list of virus variant areas. While travel has been completely paralyzed so far, restrictions have now been relaxed. From now on, only unvaccinated travelers have to go into quarantine after returning to Germany.
Local people can also breathe a sigh of relief. The night curfew, which has been in effect for two years now, is no longer valid. Of course, this is not decisive for a visit to the Kruger National Park, after all, you don’t want to go on a discovery tour in South Africa’s largest game reserve at night. In addition to the “Big Five” (elephant, leopard, rhino, buffalo and lion), there is all sorts of things to see: the park is home to over 500 bird, 114 reptile, 49 fish and 34 amphibian species.
Protection of jungle campers

Best travel time
If you travel to South Africa in summer like the jungle campers, you have to be prepared for heat and rain. As the country is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are opposite to those in Europe, summertime there is between November and March, although most of the rain falls. The best travel time is therefore from March to May and August to October. Then the dry air cools down at night and ensures mild temperatures.
Traveling the Garden Route
The highlight of a trip to South Africa is definitely the Garden Route. It runs from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. On the way you can stop at the beautiful beaches and cool off in the sea. Outdoor fans can experience wild and untouched nature in the Tsitsikamma National Park, where yellowwood trees are more than 800 years old.
Lagoon feeling arises in the Knysna National Lake Area, which is home to a seahorse species of the same name. Important: The Garden Route is one of the rainiest areas in South Africa. Therefore, a trip between June and August is recommended.
Entry requirements for South Africa
