Jurassic Park 30 years later: what happened to little Lex Murphy?


Do you remember little Lex Murphy in the first two films of the “Jurassic Park” saga? We tell you what happened to her interpreter Ariana Richards!

He’s one of the most famous faces of Jurassic Park, the absolute entertainment classic in which a very specific scene traumatized a generation of children. She is the American Ariana Richards, who played the young Lex Murphy in the first film of the prehistoric saga (where you absolutely have to pause at 43 minutes and 52 seconds) and for a short sequence from The Lost World .

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park (and getting old is really tough), we tell you what has become of Ariana Richards!

After playing Lex Murphy in the Jurassic Park saga, notably including the incredible kitchen scene (to be rediscovered below), Ariana Richards has toured very little. In 2001, she gave herself another big scare on screen by playing in Tremors 3: The Return, reprising for the occasion the role she had played in the first film. She also starred in the ABC detective series Total Security and a few TV films including Battledogs. And that’s all…

After having scoured the film sets, Ariana Richards completely changed register with a reconversion into painting, her works being rewarded several times. In October 2005, the one who has a predilection for the impressionist style with particular representations of landscapes and characters, for example won first place in the National Professional Oil Painting Competition for the painting Lady of the Dahlias. Note that Ariana Richards also tried her hand at singing. At the end of 1993, the American published a pop album entitled First Loveonly available in Japan.

In 2011, Ariana Richards, now 44 years old, spoke on AlloCiné about what the Jurassic Park experience meant to her. “You know what? For me, putting into words something as rich as my experience filming Jurassic Park is really difficult.”she told us.

“So when it was finished, in 1995, I painted a portrait of Lex, when she sees the raptors.”continued Ariana Richards. “At that moment when I was holding the jelly in the spoon and the raptors were approaching.
