Jurassic World: the director of Rogue One at the helm of the next film?

A week after failing to strike a deal with David Leitch to direct the next Jurassic World, Universal Pictures is now turning to a science fiction regular, Gareth Edwards. The director of Rogue One And The Creator would be in the process of finalizing an agreement with the studio to take control of this new Jurassic adventure.

Urgent search

But time is running out… Universal has scheduled the American release of this new feature film (still without an official title) for July 2, 2025, and it is therefore urgent for the studio that a director be present. controllers.

According to the webzine Deadline, Gareth Edwards would have succeeded in impressing the producers, Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall, during meetings which took place last week. The studio would then have offered him to direct this blockbuster, which will tell a whole new story and launch a “new era Jurassic†.

As the director of the film has not yet been confirmed, we know even less who will be in the cast. It nevertheless seems certain that the actors seen in previous opuses (such as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard) will not experience new face-to-face encounters with dangerous T-rexes and other dinosaurs.

We hope that the T-rex will be there again.

A SF regular

This new feature film was written by David Koepp (already a signatory of Jurassic Park and its sequel The lost World) with Steven Spielberg as executive producer via Amblin Entertainment, but also Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley for Kennedy-Marshall.

Gareth Edwards is quite familiar with science fiction films and big lizards – he directed the Godzilla released in 2014 – but we do not yet know what mark it will be able to place on the universe of Jurassic Park/Worldor even if Universal will grant him the creative freedom he may wish to have when tackling such a well-established franchise.

In the meantime, the other films Jurassic Park And Jurassic World can be seen or rewatched in streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
