Even in its 4-hour version, the Justice League movie does not feature Green Lantern. But in reality, the character’s scene was shot and then cut. Today, Zack Snyder finally brings it to light.
On March 18, the film Zack Snyder’s Justice League celebrated the first anniversary of its release. The fans had a field day to show their enthusiasm to finally see the version of the film wanted by its initial director.
Recall that in 2017, the version of Justice League that spectators discovered in the cinema was not really that of Zack Snyder, but rather that reviewed and corrected by the studio, and directed by Joss Whedon. In March 2021, the 4-hour version of the film, restored according to Snyder’s wishes, was released on the American platform HBO Max and in France on OCS.
Last Friday, for the anniversary of the American release of this long version, Snyder himself and actor Wayne T. Carr posted a photo of the latter in the role of John Stewart, better known under the alias of Green Lantern.
This cosmic superhero, formerly seen in the cinema in the guise of Ryan Reynolds, was to appear in the Justice League before being replaced, even in the long version, by Martial Manhunter, another character.
Result: despite 4 hours of Justice League, we still haven’t seen the Green Lantern played by Wayne T. Carr, who, like many fans, still demands the return of the connected universe adapted from DC Comics initiated by Snyder. However, this is not provided for by Warner’s current strategy for its comic book adaptations.
Members of the Green Lantern Corps appear in the “Snyder Cut”, but not John Stewart/Wayne T. Carr himself. It seems that his replacement by Martial Manhunter has been the subject of a compromise between the director and the studio so that his Director’s cut can see the light of day.
It’s also not unimaginable that Warner asked Snyder to leave out heroes who could become franchise leaders like John Stewart in favor of the lesser-known members of the Green Lantern Corps seen in the film. . Does this mean that a Green Lantern Corps movie or series, once announced to be part of the connected DC universe, will see the light of day in the near future?
A series has in any case been in development at HBO Max for 2 years.
