This Saturday, December 25, the Canadian Prime Minister celebrates his fiftieth birthday. The opportunity to remember the day he knocked out. a senator (literally!).

This Saturday, December 25, it’s Christmas, but not only. It is also the birthday of Justin Trudeau, who celebrates his fifty years. As he begins to age, the Canadian Prime Minister has a long time practiced boxing. One day, in the ring, he even knocked out a senator ! In March 2012, Justin Trudeau, then liberal senator, faced Patrick Brazeau, conservative senator, within the framework of the event “Fight for the Cure”, organized for the benefit of the Foundation of the cancer of the region of Ottawa, according to Sport VAT, a Canadian sports television channel. In front of a packed house of nearly 800 people, Justin Trudeau, then 40 years old, won the fight, disputed according to the rules of Olympic boxing, in the third and final round. The loser, out of breath, had the bloody nose after taking a few good punches from his opponent earlier in the round.

Trudeau was not yet not gone to take it away. The first minutes of the fight were more than difficult for the Liberal. Patrick Brazeau, then 37 years old and black belt in karate, immediately pounced on him, leaving him no respite. It was not until the second round that Justin Trudeau regained the advantage, before hammering his opponent in turn, to the cheers of a delirious crowd. Halfway through the third round, the referee ended the fight and awarded the victory to Sophie Trudeau’s husband. At the end of the clash, the two gave each other a warm hug in the center of the ring. “He didn’t send me to the mat, but I give him credit, he beat me“, then declared the Conservative deputy.

A fight dear to the heart of Justin Trudeau

The event, held at the convention center of the Hampton Inn hotel in Ottawa on the evening of March 31, 2012, was broadcast live on several Canadian channels and was used to raise funds for the fight against cancer. The cause was then dear to the hearts of the two senators : Brazeau lost his mother to lung cancer and the father of the Liberal MP, former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, suffered in particular from prostate cancer. This evening of fighting raised $ 230,000 (a little over 200,000 euros), including $ 30,000 (26,000 euros) raised directly by Trudeau and Brazeau.
