Kanye West: Next hurdles to run for president

Now things are getting really serious about presidency: Kanye West has successfully submitted documents to the electoral authority.

The US rap star Kanye West (43, "ye") continues to be serious about his planned presidential candidacy. As the US portal "TMZ" reports, the rapper submitted new documents to the Federal Election Commission in the USA on Thursday. Accordingly, he gave an official declaration of candidacy. West would then acquire the official status of a candidate under the Federal Election Campaign Act.

Once again the musician is said to have given the name of his party as the "Birthday Party", which now also has the official abbreviation BDY. His election campaign commission also called "Kanye 2020". West gave the town of Cody in the US state of Wyoming as his official residence, where he and his wife Kim Kardashian (39) recently acquired a huge property.

US experts partially question West's seriousness of really intending to run for the presidency and suspect a marketing gimmick behind the announcements. Above all, the formal legal hurdles that have to be cleared by him are too high. Only on Wednesday, for example, did West miss a deadline to be allowed to vote in the US state of Florida. However, he is said to have officially submitted his documents for the vote in Oklahoma.
