Karin Hanczewski: That has changed in the film industry since MeToo

"Tatort" star Karin Hanczewski deals with #MeToo in "#heuldoch – therapy like never before". She explains what has changed.

The German actress Karin Hanczewski (38) has been hunting criminals as Karin Gorniak in Dresden's "Tatort" since 2016. Her next case, the horror shocker "Tatort: Parasomnia" (The First), is on Sunday (November 15th). But the Berliner can also do other things. She proves this in the satirical miniseries "#heuldoch – Therapy like never before", which is now available (November 13th) in the ZDF and ARTE media libraries.

In the five episodes (15 minutes each) she changes sides and takes on the role of a burglar. "That was a lot of fun," Karin Hanczewski explains in an interview with the news agency spot on news.

The virtues of satire

The change was good for the actress: "The satirical form opens up other ways to play than the thriller. Playing a scene that makes you laugh a lot is of course fun." In the series, Hanczewski embodies the criminal and feminist Lin, who breaks out of prison with Gloria (Bärbel Schwarz, 42).

The actress also sees herself as a feminist. "I stick to Margarete Stokowski's definition of feminism, namely to advocate that all people should have the same rights and freedoms, regardless of their gender, their sexuality and their body."

#MeToo is important to Karin Hanczewski

A big theme in the miniseries is the #MeToo movement. Because the two criminals pretend to be behavior therapists and treat men whose sexual assaults have come to light as a result. For the "Tatort" actress, #MeToo was a very important step. "We are finally talking about what has long been normal behind closed doors."

According to Hanczewski, abuse of power and sexualized assaults would no longer simply be part of it. "It's not something to be accepted. There is now a consensus on that and society is changing." A new sensitivity for the topic has also developed. "With the film, for example, places were created that you can turn to in the event of a problem."

The miniseries "#heuldoch – Therapy like never before" is not only available in the media library, but can also be seen on ZDF on November 23 at 00:00.
